FAQs

What is finappster?

finappster is a platform that enables you to understand and track the sustainability of your various investments in one place. finappster also automatically calculates the performance of all your investments, including net return on investment, dividend payments.

Why use finappster?

finappster helps you understand how sustainable your investments are, and provides a holistic overview of your whole portfolio. You'll save you time if you're checking your various investments (such as shares and cryptocurrency) on multiple apps, or even monitoring them on a spreadsheet. And you won't have to worry about what harm your investments might be doing.

Who can use finappster?

Initially, finappster focuses primarily on investments made by New Zealand and Australian investors. Overseas investors are welcome to use finappster, however, not all overseas investment products may be available to track with finappster.

We’ll be working on making this possible because we believe that everyone should be able to track all their investments in one place. But this may still be a few months away.

If you're living in another country and keen to use finappster, let us know by dropping us a line at info@finappster.co.nz

How can I access finappster?

finappster is currently a web app. This means it won’t be downloaded from an app store, but in a browser.

You’ll be able to save a link to finappster on your home screen, so you can quickly access it like you would with an app. Launching with a web app means you won’t need to download a new version, every time we make update.

While we're in Beta, we've focused on the current recommended consumer browsers on each platform. For Microsoft Windows users, that's Edge (which means we don't currently support Internet Explorer).

Can I add finappster to my home screen?

If you're using an iOS device:

  1. ‍open Safari and go to finappster.co.nz
  2. ‍select the 'Share icon' from the bottom (the page with up pointing arrow shown below)
  3. ‍select 'Add to Home Screen, and add, and

  2. press the settings button (3 vertical dots on the top right of the screen)
  3. press the star symbol - where you can edit the page name and choose a folder to save it to
  4. go back to browser settings meu, and open Bookmarks folder. Select finappster’s bookmark which will give a list of options, and
  5. select Add to 'home screen'.
What investments can I track on finappster?

For the beta, the investments you can track on finappster are:

  • shares (New Zealand and Australia), and
  • cryptocurrencies (global).

If you'have other investments you'd like to track in finappster, let us know by dropping us a line at info@finappster.co.nz

What do I need to get started?

To setup an account all you need is your name, an email address, a password you’ll remember and a couple of investments you’d like to track. Once you’ve signed up, you can add the investments you’d like to track.

What does launching in beta mean?

A beta version is the first version. It’s the first time anyone outside of finappster will get to use finappster.

Before starting development, there were only so many people we could talk to about it.

So, we’re launching finappster in beta to test it with you. This is your chance to feedback, and our chance to refine it, before we go and tell more people about it.

We're not launching because it’s perfect… but because we need your input. So let us know by dropping us a line at info@finappster.co.nz

What’s included in finappster’s beta?

Although it’s a beta version of the product, the investments you track are real. You’ll be able to add your investments and track them here in finappster.

As an investor you’ll be able to:

  • create a finappster account
  • load your shares or cryptocurrencies
  • understand how sustainable they are, and
  • monitor their performance.
What happens when the beta is finished?

We’ll keep you updated with how things are progressing.

You’ll have the option to sign up to finappster to continue tracking all your investments in one place. Or you can go back to logging into a myriad of apps, or your time-consuming and complex spreadsheet, to track them yourself.

We’d love to hear your feedback, so please send it to info@finappster.co.nz

How secure is finappster?

When you sign on for the first time, you'l be required to create a password which is between 8-20 characters, and must include one of each of the following: capital letter, lower case letter, number and special character.

You know the drill about using a common password like "password1", using one password in too many placed and sharing your passwords.

You'll also be subject to email verification.

Will my investment information be secure?

Much of the information our users give us is necessary for the app to function. All data we collect is given a classification. This tells us how sensitive the information is, and informs what type of protections we need to put around it. Once we have a classification, we take measures to keep it safe.

For information that isn't necessary for the app to function (i.e. info we are holding because we are required by law and only used in instance of audit or similar) we apply encryption to help make sure that in the absolute worst case scenario where all our other security protection are comprised that this most sensitive customer data remains inaccessible.

For the remainder of the information, we rely on a set of security protections that break into two parts.

Technical - we follow best practice in terms of securing our app, servers that host our app and the access to the database that holds the data.

Procedural - relates to a set of rules that relates to how our staff access and treat data, because we recognising that half of security is making sure that your technical protections are not accidentally subverted by a well-meaning staff member doing something accidentally. Under procedural, we also select our vendors with care. For example, Stripe our credit card processor who are not only well-known and well-regarded but also offer strong security features that we are able to make use of so that we do not need to see or handle our customers' credit card information.

These protections as a whole form our information security policy.
